History of the Church

Weldon Valley has a rich history of farming and ranching but more importantly, a friendly atmosphere with very caring people.  Church history began in 1890 in the Valley and there were church services that were held in schoolhouses in Orchard, Weldona  and Goodrich.  Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church has been part of the valley since 1899 and was chosen as the main Protestant church building to serve the Valley in 1952.  The church has a rich history of being the community church where many weddings, memorial services and baptisms have happened.  Community gatherings and groups continue to meet here on a regular basis.  Each summer, Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church hosts a Vacation Bible School Week for the Valley's children and has an ongoing history of mission giving both locally, nationally and globally.

What Do We Believe?

Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation.  Our heritage and much of what we believe began with John Calvin, whose writings clarified a lot of the Reformed thinking that came before him.

We believe that God is the supreme authority throughout the universe; our knowledge of God and God's purpose for humanity comes from the Bible; our salvation is through Jesus and is God's generous gift to us and not the result of what we do or accomplish in our lives and we are all called upon to share this Good News with the whole world.  We believe these things and do these things through the lens of love and compassion for our fellow human beings just as Jesus commanded us to do.
